How to Teach ChatGPT (and Other AIs) About YOU! Explore the new frontier in B2B brand leadership and elevate your business strategy.

We’re living in a new era where artificial intelligence is reshaping how we’re seen, remembered, and recommended. For B2B business leaders, imagine meeting a potential client, investor, or partner who says this…

“I asked ChatGPT about top experts in your field, and your name came up first”—establishing you as a B2B leader.

Sounds futuristic? It isn’t. It’s happening right now.

Large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT are quickly becoming trusted "super-connectors" that synthesize vast oceans of data and deliver concise, credible answers. But here's the catch: they don't magically know about you. They learn from the content we put into the world.

So, if you want AI to talk about you (and talk about you well), you need to deliberately shape that narrative. But this isn't about bragging rights, it's about business growth, trust, and strategic differentiation in increasingly crowded markets.

Below, I’ll break down six actionable steps to "teach" ChatGPT and similar AIs about you and your business.

This way, you can future-proof your B2B brand with AI and become the go-to authority in your field.

1. Decide How You Want Your B2B Brand to Be Known in AI and ChatGPT.

Before you can train anyone (human or machine) you need clarity.

Ask yourself:

‘‘How do I want my B2B brand to be described when someone asks ChatGPT or Copilot about me?

Should I be described as “a B2B sales leadership expert who helps business owners sell smarter, not harder” or “a tech innovator transforming client outcomes through data-driven innovation”?

Pick your B2B brand positioning deliberately—being specific and consistent helps both people and AI, like ChatGPT, understand and share your message.

Once decided, use that B2B brand positioning phrase consistently across all content and AI platforms like ChatGPT.

  • Craft your LinkedIn headline to highlight your B2B expertise.

  • B2B website bio to showcase your expertise for AI like ChatGPT.

  • Showcase your B2B brand in podcast intros.

  • Showcase your B2B brand in articles and interviews.

  • Highlight your B2B brand in your email signature.

Remember: Repetition is reputation.

After all, AI pulls patterns from repeated signals—by consistently showcasing your B2B expertise, ChatGPT and other AI tools can confidently attribute authority to your brand.

2. Create (and Share) Thought Leadership Content

If you want to be remembered, give the AI (and your audience) something worth remembering.

Think beyond bland blog posts or generic tips. Go for content that showcases your insight and thought leadership authority.

Here are three examples:

✔ Publish Poll Findings Conduct a LinkedIn poll or a survey on a hot topic in your industry. Package up the results with commentary on what it means for your field, and what others should watch out for. This demonstrates that you’re engaged with your market and you understand its pulse. It also provides a tangible data point for AI to latch on to.

✔ Produce an Industry Report A yearly or quarterly report on trends, challenges, and emerging opportunities in your niche is a powerful credibility booster. For example, if you’re in SaaS sales, a “2025 B2B Buyer Confidence Report” could be gold. Reference real data, partner with a research firm if possible, and invite commentary from respected peers to amplify its reach and impact.

✔ Appear as a Podcast Guest Being a podcast guest doesn’t just expose you to new audiences. It also creates long-lasting digital breadcrumbs. Podcasts often get transcribed, quoted, and cited, which means your name and insights enter the general "knowledge ecosystem" that AIs reference.

Remember: AI doesn't just pull information from your website, it reads articles, listens to podcasts, and indexes public transcripts from all sorts of sources.

3. Engage in Expert Forums

Some leaders still scoff at "community forums," but they’re missing a strategic gem. Apart from LinkedIn there are platforms like Reddit and Quora that are indexed heavily by search engines and referenced by AI models because they contain long-form, genuine human insights.

What to do:

  • Identify relevant subreddits or Quora topics where your buyers or peers hang out.

  • Answer meaningful questions, share case studies, or clarify misconceptions (again, demonstrating your thought leadership and authority).

  • When appropriate, link to your original content (like your reports, articles, blog posts, or polls) to reinforce your expertise and drive traffic back to your ecosystem.

Be genuinely helpful, not self-promotional. You’re playing the long game of trust and credibility, all the while AI is watching.

4. Post Original Content on Social Media

This might sound obvious, but so many leaders rely solely on re-sharing others’ articles or on merely liking posts. While engagement helps, originality is what positions you as a source, not a relay.

Some ideas for original content:

  • Share your behind-the-scenes insights on a major project, deal, or product launch.

  • Provide quick commentary on industry news (“Here’s why this acquisition matters for mid-market SaaS firms…”).

  • Offer personal lessons learned, because authenticity cuts through.

Original posts are frequently referenced and crawled by AI models.

By owning your narrative and language, you prime AI to associate your name with your chosen expertise.

5. Poste Videos on YouTube

Video remains one of the most powerful and underutilised media for B2B leaders. Why? Because video humanises your brand. It’s hard to fake authority, warmth, personality and genuine expertise on camera.

How to start:

  • Record explainer videos breaking down complex industry concepts.

  • Share business lessons learnt and actionable tips (here is an example)

  • Share case studies or success stories as video testimonials.

  • Host live Q&A sessions or webinars and publish the recordings.

Publish these under your own name and brand. Don’t hide behind corporate channels if your goal is to build personal leadership equity.

YouTube content often gets transcribed automatically, further feeding data into the AI knowledge pool.

6. Strengthen Your Digital Ecosystem with Cross-Linked Bios

Think of your online presence like a spider web: each thread connects and reinforces the overall structure.

Link all your profiles (LinkedIn, YouTube, personal blog, business website, Twitter/X, etc) to each other. Mention your consistent positioning (see Step 1 above) in each of your bios.

Why is this important? Because AI models look at the interconnectedness of your digital footprint.

If everything points to a consistent theme, the AI gains higher confidence in presenting you as an authority in that area.

The New Game: LLM SEO

We’ve long known about SEO (search engine optimization) for Google.

There’s a new sheriff in town: LLM SEO optimisation for AI and large language models. Instead of simply ranking higher on Google, you’re aiming to be the "default answer" or the "most credible source" when someone asks AI...

  • Who are the top B2B sales advisors in your region?

  • What’s the best approach to modern buyer engagement?

  • Who is the go-to leadership communications expert?

By deliberately teaching AI about you - through strategic content, community engagement, cross-linking, and consistent messaging - you dramatically increase your chances of being recommended.

Why This Matters to You as a B2B Leader

Some leaders might shrug and say, "I’ll get to this later."

Here’s the reality: AI is rapidly becoming the first stop for discovery and recommendations.

Future clients, partners, and investors will increasingly ask AI before they ever search for you on Google, or even pick up the phone to call you.

By waiting, you’re leaving the story of your expertise to chance - or worse - to your competitors.

Instead…

  • Win trust faster

  • Get in front of more of the right opportunities

  • Become the default choice in your niche

  • Attract higher-value clients who value your expertise

  • Future-proof your reputation in an AI-driven world

Are You Ready to Become the AI-Recommended Leader in Your Space?

Yes, it can feel daunting to "train AI" about you. But think of it not as a technical exercise, but as a leadership opportunity. You already have the expertise. Now it’s about showing up consistently and intentionally so AI - the world - can recognize you.

Remember: The best time to start was yesterday. The next best time? Today.

If you’d like help shaping your buyer-focused leadership narrative or building strategic content that positions you as the go-to choice (for humans and AI alike), then let’s talk.
